School Dance Season is here!

The school dance season is upon us!  Each class has its own end-of-year dance, scheduled:

  • Freshman Frolic: March 22
  • Sophomore Hop: April 26
  • Junior Prom: May 10
  • Senior Prom: May 31

All students and parents should be check out with the school's dance policies, as they are carefully enforced at every event.  It is most important for students to remember to stay safe while they have fun.

Senior Portfolios Due!

 Senior portfolios will be collected on March 8, 2013.  Seniors will be placed on academic probation if the following items are missing:

  • complete reflective essay
  • 5-6 entries described in the essay
  • completed reflections for each entry
  • completed Top Ten Reading List
  • Two Social Expectations recommendations

 Make sure those portfolios are ready to turn in!

Taste of the Blackstone to be held on March 2

The PACT's annual Taste of the Blackstone Valley is next Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 6-9pm in the old and new cafeterias.  Great area restaurants will be offering their special dishes, the LHS Jazz Band will perform and many fabulous silent auction prizes will be up for bid.The majority of the proceeds fund the PACT's scholarships for the Class of 2013.  Tickets are $10 and are available through the main office or at the door.  On the night of the event, please enter through the school's main entrance at the communications center.

School Closed on Fri 2/8 AND Mon 2/11

Due to what is now being called "the Blizzard of 2013," all classes and afterschool activities have been canceled for Friday, Feb. 8 and for Monday, Feb. 11.

LHS Science Fair

Congratulations to all of the participants in the newly awakened LH Science Fair!  This year, ninth graders proposed, researched, conducted, and analysis experiments to answer scientific questions ranging from fuel efficiency and plant growth to Rubik's cube analysis and phobias.  Special congratulations belong to the fair's top four students, who will be advancing to the RI Science Fair:

  1. Ben Chiacchia
  2. Melissa Drake
  3. Amy Lemos
  4. Alexandra Fish

New Program of Studies posted

The New LHS Program of Studies is posted. Check out the full pdf version so you can select the appropriate courses and electives for the next school year!

Last exam delayed

Update 1/21/13: Due to a 90 minute delay on Tuesday, the Period G exam will begin at 9 am. Students will be dismissed from school to buses at 10:37 am. Students who need to make up exams should plan to stay after 10:37, and must arrange their own transportation.

 

Mid-Year Exams begin on January 16 and last until January 22.  Mid-Year Exams assess the essential learning and skills from the first semester. Students should study carefully for each exam, and be prepared to perform their best.  Exams count as 20% of the First Semester grade.  

Post-Grad Committee Looking for Parent Volunteers

The LHS Post-Grad Committee is looking for parent volunteers to help organize and run this year's Post-Graduation Party for graduating LHS Seniors.  Parents of students in any grade are welcome and encouraged to participate. The Post-Grad Party is an overnight, graduates-only event held in a safe, secure location.
